Resumo

This work presents the beginning of the development of the new Timer Counter project, module 9028, which makes up the new instrumentation of the IEN Argonaut’s Reactor. The old model, although efficient considering the technology when it was produced, does not have spare parts, in addition to requiring much greater energy consumption. The Timer Counter is used when you want to know the activity of a radioactive source by counting pulses that occur in a pre-established time interval. The use of the FPGA (field programmable gate array) in conjunction with the ESP32 microcontroller presents superior performance to the logic circuits used in the old project.
