Resumo

Among the methods used to find leaks in heat exchangers, radiotracers are particularly notable for their high sensitivity and requirement for injections of small amounts of radioactive material in a way that does not modify the fluid composition that passes through the heat exchanger. The development and implementation of an innovative instrument for injecting radiotracers into high pressure fluid systems specifically for compact heat exchangers utilized in offshore oil and gas platforms is described in this paper. Using this injection system, it is possible to quickly replace out the radiotracer’s container without taking the injector out. The complete injection set was certified to operate in systems with pressures as high as 200 bar and was constructed entirely of 316 stainless steel.
