Calibration of flowmeters in oil and gas industry using radioactive tracers

Abstract

In oil industry, the correct measurements or oil flow in pipelines is necessary to control the pumping system. For this operation, a series of flowmeters are installed, this equipment must be periodically calibrated, and in this work, we show a non-invasive method employing radiotracer methods to measure the oil flow. Using a proper radiotracer for the specific material moving inside the pipeline is possible accurately to measure the flow without any disturbance in the normal operation of the pipeline.
